The count down has begun...

It's March 1st folks. Know what that means? Only 20 more days until my birthday... So why in the hell are you still sitting here reading?! Go out and get my presents! I accept them the entire month. Cash and credit cards welcome.

This also leaves me roughly 7 weeks until The Thing's birthday. I know a few of you are in or have done the long distance relationship thing...so any suggestions for unique, thoughtful, and/or romantic gifts or ideas are more then welcome.

Now go buy me presents.

Seriously.

And the latest news from the front?
He loves me. He'll always love me. And he always wants to be a part of my life, no matter what, forever and ever.
And not just because we kind of have to have a relationship because of the kids.

WTF?!?!

Yep, those thoughts of love were brought to us courtesy of The Paperweight.

I think as far as romantic, it depends on the Thing. I couldn't give my Thing flowers or anything sappy (even a poem) because even though he would appreciate what I was trying to do, secretly he'd think it was a dud. Those things just don't do it for him.

So what I do is think about how he buys gifts for me. It gives me insight into how he thinks. He usually tries to do practical things, things I wouldn't think of in 100 years (and no, that doesn't mean a vacuum cleaner). He's an electronics and games guy and he always thinks of those things first.

Or, maybe he's mentioned something he's dreamed about doing or having – something realistically not too big.

Or, you could plan a day or a couple of days away together. It doesn't have to be extravagant. It doesn't have to have all the details planned out either. The object is to pamper him the entire time though, even if that means letting him pamper you (if that's what he wants to do).

*rolls eyes at the Paperweight's comments*

You and The Thing should totally plan a weekend getaway for both your birthdays! Take a little trip somewhere nice.

For my hubby's birthday a couple years back, I sent him on a little wild goose chase... It started with a movie ticket in an envelope. A little note told him to meet me there. I had gone to the bookstore, chose some books for him, had them figure out the amount, and I bought a gc for that exact amount and had them hold the books at the register for me. After the movie, I handed him the envelope with the gc (the bookstore was in the same shopping "Avenue" so this next part worked out perfect...) I then went to the parking lot and found his car, and left maps to a hotel on his front seat. I got a head start since he was busy at the bookstore and got to the hotel, got us checked in and was waiting in the room with a bottle of his favorite wine when he arrived. We had a glass of wine, went out to dinner then had a nice evening with no interruptions. The next morning, we went hiking close by. He was sooo totally impressed by thought and planning that went into it, but only because I am NOT a planner... LOL!

Doesn't matter what you decide to do, it will be perfect. (but feel free to steal any of my ideas. ;) )

We already have a 3-day weekend planned for the weekend after my birthday AND for the weekend before his birthday...and we have tickets to shows for each of those weekends...

I'm trying to think of something that is unique...thoughtful...
I'm not worried so much about the actual gift itself, per se. I mean, there really isn't anything that he wants that he doesn't already have. Afterall, he is single, no kids, and makes three times what I make (literally). I need something more along the lines of a gift that will make him say 'wow, that was really fucking cool and she really loves me'.

Well, I think the gift package needs to include a Thing 1 stuffed doll just because.

Does he like gadgets? Maybe one of those cool digital photo frames with some pictures of the two of you?

Maybe I'm not much help here. Last year I got Mark the Betty Crocker Bake N Fill set.

I found this really awesome site back when Pat and I were dating. It's www.personalcreations.com and they have some really neat ideas that you can personalize for that person who has everything. It also allows you to give it your own personal touch so it's definitely more heartfelt than traditional 'gifts,' too.

One of the items I purchased was the Message Puzzle (just enter "Puzzle" in the search box on the home page of that site). It's a 140 piece puzzle that you can put your very own message on for The Thing and the 'kewl' part is that he has to put it together in order to read it and most guys love puttin things together...lol

Anywho, if that idea doesn't float your boat they have tons of other stuff, as well.

btw....I just had another silly thought. If he works in an office (has his own desk, etc.) you could always get him one of those mini pool tables (about the size of an 8x10 photo) to sit on his desk.

Afterall, it'd be a great reminder of the 'first time' so not only would it have special meaning but it would also give him something to tinker with when he's got some 'downtime.'

Just kind of a silly, whimsical gift idea that has personal meaning behind it, as well. lol
